Welcome Hollis Long, our Advancing Afterschool Fellow

Hello! My name is Hollis Long, and I am a recent graduate of Yale University, where I earned my Bachelor of Arts in English. My passion for supporting children in adverse environments began through my work with the Mayhew Program-an all-boys residential summer program that provides school year mentoring for at-risk boys in New Hampshire. I spent three summers with Mayhew forging connections with professionals passionate about the well-being of children. I continued working with youth in New England through various afterschool programs, including the East Rock Record, a journalism program for elementary and middle schools, and CLICC (Connecting Through Literacy: Incarcerated Parents, Their Children, and Caregivers), a program where I mentored and tutored children of incarcerated parents.

I am ecstatic to join Alaska Children’s Trust’s program the Alaska Afterschool Network as their Advancing Afterschool Fellow to support, grow, and strengthen Alaska’s afterschool programs. I am passionate about providing every child with safety and the tools necessary for them to succeed. I believe that I can use my knowledge and experience of afterschool programs to serve school-aged children and childcare providers alike.  I hope to learn from and serve this community well!
