The Alaska Afterschool Network
supports, strengthens, and advocates for quality afterschool programs and activities for children, youth, and families throughout Alaska
What is Afterschool and Out-of-School Time?
Afterschool refers to a wide range of youth programs and activities that occur during out-of-school time hours. Programs or activities can occur before or after school, in the evening, on the weekends, or during summer. A key element of afterschool is that youth connect with a supportive adult and build skills that remain valuable throughout their lives.
Who is the Alaska Afterschool Network?
Alaska Afterschool Network is the only statewide organization dedicated to increasing afterschool, summer and expanded learning opportunities for school-age children, youth and families in Alaska. We are a network of nonprofit, private, schools, tribal, and government organizations that promote high-quality afterschool programs as a critical component in the positive development of Alaska's youth.
We see our roles as divided into three roles:
Find an Out-of-School Time Program
Alaskan families have a need for afterschool and summer programming now more than ever. Out-of-school time educators offer support to children and provide them with a caring, thriving environment. Use the map to find a program in your area. Click on an icon to learn the contact information for the program and discover whether it’s open year-round (green icons), only during the school year (blue icons), or only for summer (yellow icons). We hope this map is a valuable resource for you and your family as you harness the power of out-of-school time in your life!
